ABOUT ME
THE BASICSI grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, but first became interested in journalism and broadcasting at Newcastle Student Radio (NSR). While music has always been a great love of mine, NSR offered a platform to develop my tastes and understanding; it was here that I developed a newfound love for radio and podcasting.
I currently work as a Creative Writer for Bauer Media, an exciting new step in my radio and writing career. In tandem with my 9-5 I have been doing weekly one-on-one presenter coaching with the production team at Clyde 1. In 2021 I hosted and produced The Hear and Now podcast, powered by Transmission Roundhouse, which you can access here. I have first-hand experience as a cover presenter on HRN Scotland, and presented regularly on Euradio, broadcasting Monday to Friday with a focus on European music and culture. You can find out more about that here. |
I am now based in Glasgow, having graduated in 2020 with a First Class BA Combined Honours degree in Geography and French (and Distinction in Spoken French), at Newcastle University. I was awarded an Outstanding First for my final year project: a 20-minute investigative podcast episode exploring the role of local radio in promoting local identity, and the impact of reducing local programming. It features an invaluable interview with radio's David Lloyd: listen below.
THE EXTRAS
As I said, music has always been an important part of my life. My music taste includes most things from '80s electro to indie-folk and neo-soul — I love discovering new artists and believe strongly in the art of a good album. I am happiest at a gig, big or small, and day to day you'll be lucky to catch me without headphones in.
From a young age I've played the piano, a stress-relief and love affair which — I am pleased to say — continues to this day. For years I have been involved in dance companies and societies, moving between styles such as jazz and tap to contemporary and street, hooked on the feeling of performing with a group (dancing solo is strictly reserved for the kitchen).
I also speak French fluently and have enjoyed travelling whenever I have been so fortunate. For five months I lived in Paris, working in a small publishing house called Edilivre, before moving to Nantes for six months to pursue my radio prospects at Euradio.
