With a line-up bursting with young artists, L’Ère de Rien returned at the end of April for its eighth edition. With its range of hip-hop, punk, R&B and indie-pop, this festival has quickly become one of Rezé’s spring highlights. Bringing his seductive blend of stripped-down jazz and neo-soul, Jacob Allen featured among Saturday’s line-up under the alias Puma Blue. Hailing from south London, Jake’s latest release « Blood Loss » (2018) comprises eight tracks of dreamy vocals and soft grooves that truly reflect the blossoming talent of young artists today. In the interview, we discuss shoegaze music, the trouble with describing lesser known artists, and then thoroughly break down his latest releases. Listen to the interview here.
Showcasing their love for rock music in all its forms, Festival YEAH! returns to Lourmarin next month for a seventh year. Prior to its return, jokesters Bernard Stareuqui and Jean-Phil Huchinson have been driving around France collecting items for auction, putting all profits towards a huge concert at Foyer de vie de Villelaure, due to take place later this year. As a one-off special, the pair joined Jon Berry and me on air to discuss the festival and the project, divulging in a few ridiculous jokes along the way. From the 2nd to the 11th May 2019, touring seven French cities, Europavox presented a selection of evenings mixing political debates, concerts and stand-up, encouraging the (young) people of France to get involved in the recent European elections. To celebrate the diversity of la Tournée Europavox, I spoke with British comedian Paul Taylor to get a bigger picture. Listen as we discuss his life-long affair with France, the craft of tailoring comedy to an international audience, and the depleting interest in Britain for learning a modern language, for which he gives us his best advice. Celebrating Europe Day 2019, Liveurope and L’Aeronef Lille teamed up for a spectacular evening of independent music. With a new album under his belt, Italian musician, DJ and producer Bruno Belissimo was one of the final acts to perform that night. He stopped by the show to discuss the main theme behind his cohesive new record, « Stargaze Mixtape » (2019), and to comment on the disco/electro scene developing in Italy over the last few years.
